Job description

Overview:

Are you looking to join a globally recognised construction group operating at the forefront of major civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Europe?

Our client is a leading international contractor with annual turnover exceeding €18bn, delivering complex civil engineering, transportation, energy, and major infrastructure projects across Europe and internationally. Within the group sits a highly respected Contract Management division - a unique internal advisory function operating in a similar capacity to a specialist claims and dispute consultancy, but embedded within the contractor’s project environment. The team provides strategic contract management, claims advisory, dispute support, and risk mitigation services across the group’s most technically demanding projects.

Due to continued growth in the German infrastructure market, the business is seeking a German speaking Contracts & Claims Manager to support major civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Germany. This position offers exposure to complex contractual environments including VOB/B, FIDIC, and bespoke international contracts, working on some of the most significant infrastructure developments in the region. This is an excellent opportunity for a high-potential contracts professional looking to develop their career within a global contractor environment, with a clear pathway to future leadership within the contract management function.

Job Description:

The Contracts & Claims Manager will operate in a project-embedded advisory capacity, forming part of the contractor’s internal contract management advisory team supporting major infrastructure works. This is not a traditional commercial management role. Instead, the successful candidate will focus on contractual strategy, entitlement management, and claims advisory throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful individual will be expected to:

  • Support the development and implementation of contract management strategies across projects
  • Identify, develop, and protect contractual entitlement positions
  • Support the preparation and management of claims strategies
  • Advise project teams on contractual risk and mitigation strategies
  • Strengthen commercial governance and contractual compliance across project teams

You will work closely with project leadership, commercial teams, and the central contract management and legal functions, acting as a key contractual advisor on complex project issues. Projects will typically involve major civil engineering and infrastructure developments, operating under VOB/B, FIDIC, and bespoke contract frameworks.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contract management support across the full project lifecycle under VOB/B, FIDIC, and bespoke infrastructure contracts
  • Identification, preparation, and management of contractual claims and entitlements
  • Drafting and issuing formal contractual notices and correspondence
  • Assessment and management of subcontractor claims, including EOT, disruption, and prolongation matters
  • Supporting the development of project commercial and contractual strategy
  • Assisting in negotiations relating to contentious contractual issues
  • Advising project leadership on contractual risk exposure and mitigation strategies
  • Supporting the establishment of structured claims management processes and documentation systems
  • Driving proactive contract compliance and governance across project teams
  • Liaising with legal advisors and external experts where disputes escalate into formal proceedings

Profile Required:

  • 5–15+ years’ experience in contract management, commercial management, or claims advisory within civil engineering or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of VOB/B and experience with FIDIC contracts highly desirable
  • Experience working on major infrastructure, transportation, energy, or heavy civil engineering projects
  • Experience in claims preparation, contractual entitlement, or dispute support advantageous
  • Strong analytical and contractual problem-solving capability
  • Ability to operate effectively within project teams while maintaining an independent advisory perspective
  • Confident communicator able to engage with project leadership and technical stakeholders
  • Strong interest in developing a career in contract strategy, claims, and dispute resolution
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., MRICS, MCIArb, or equivalent) advantageous but not essential
  • Construction, technical, or engineering degree
  • German language is essential

What Sets This Opportunity Apart:

  • Opportunity to join a globally recognised Tier 1 infrastructure contractor (€18bn+ turnover)
  • Unique internal Contract Management & Claims advisory function
  • Exposure to major German infrastructure projects
  • Experience working under VOB/B and international contract frameworks including FIDIC
  • Clear pathway toward future leadership
  • Strong long-term pipeline of European infrastructure projects
  • Competitive salary and benefits aligned to experience
