The Technical Expert will play a key role in delivering technical expert analysis relating to civil and structural engineering issues arising on complex construction and infrastructure projects.
Working alongside quantum and delay specialists, the successful candidate will assist with technical investigations, causation analysis, expert report preparation, and dispute advisory support across major disputes. The role requires a technically credible civil or structural engineering professional capable of producing clear, defensible, and well-structured expert evidence, while supporting the overall delivery of expert witness assignments.
This position is particularly suited to an individual with strong technical investigation and analytical skills, combined with the ability to communicate complex engineering issues clearly to legal teams, tribunals, and project stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide technical analysis and expert advisory support on civil and structural engineering matters relating to construction disputes
- Assist in the preparation of expert reports, technical assessments, and engineering opinions for arbitration and litigation proceedings
- Undertake technical investigations into engineering failures, design issues, construction defects, and project performance
- Support the development of causation analysis and technical evidence relating to project delays, defects, and performance issues
- Collaborate closely with quantum and delay experts on multidisciplinary dispute assignments
- Manage and deliver high-quality technical work across multiple expert mandates
- Maintain and develop relationships with existing legal and client networks
- Support senior experts in tribunal preparation, joint expert meetings, and technical briefings
- Contribute to maintaining the firm’s reputation for technical excellence and credibility within the disputes market
- Mentor and support junior consultants within the technical advisory team
Profile Required:
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
- Approximately 12–20 years’ experience within civil/structural engineering, construction, forensic engineering, or dispute advisory
- Strong experience analysing engineering design, construction methodology, defects, or technical project issues
- Prior experience supporting expert witness work, dispute resolution, or forensic engineering investigations is advantageous
- Experience on major infrastructure or complex construction projects
- Strong technical writing ability with the capability to produce clear, structured technical reports
- Ability to explain complex engineering concepts to legal teams, tribunals, and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience managing complex technical assignments and working within multidisciplinary teams
- Chartered status such as CPEng, MICE, MIStructE, or equivalent highly advantageous
