Our client is an independent, highly respected global construction advisory and expert services firm with a strong presence across Europe, the Middle East, North America, Asia, and Australia. The business provides specialist services across dispute resolution, expert witness testimony, forensic delay and quantum analysis, and strategic project advisory on major international construction and infrastructure programmes.
As part of its continued growth across the Asia-Pacific region, the firm is seeking to appoint a Senior Director or Managing Director (Delay) to lead and expand its forensic delay and expert services offering in Sydney, Australia. This is a senior leadership appointment combining technical expert capability, revenue generation, and strategic practice growth. The level (Senior Director vs Managing Director) will be aligned to the individual’s experience, profile, and ability to originate and lead work.
The firm is open to Australian, UK, and Irish nationals seeking relocation to Sydney, offering a platform to either return home or establish themselves within one of the most active disputes markets globally. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping and scaling the firm’s delay offering across Australia and the wider APAC region, working closely with leading law firms, contractors, and developers on high-value and complex disputes.
Job Description:
The Senior Director/Managing Director will lead the Delay Expert function in Australia, overseeing the delivery of forensic delay analysis while driving strategic growth, client relationships, and market positioning across the region.
Working closely with quantum experts, technical specialists, and the wider international disputes team, the role will focus on delay analysis, expert report preparation, dispute advisory, and testifying opportunities across arbitration, litigation, adjudication, and other formal proceedings.
This position requires a highly credible delay expert who can combine technical excellence with commercial leadership and business development capability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow the firm’s Delay Expert practice across Australia and the wider APAC region
- Act as Delay Expert Witness in arbitration, litigation, adjudication, and other dispute forums where appropriate
- Oversee the preparation of forensic delay analyses, expert reports, and technical opinions on complex construction disputes
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with law firms, contractors, developers, and key dispute stakeholders
- Drive business development and revenue generation, contributing to the firm’s growth strategy in the region
- Collaborate closely with quantum experts, engineers, and technical specialists on multi-disciplinary dispute mandates
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and development of delay consultants within the team
- Support early-stage dispute advisory, including delay analysis, claims strategy, and programme-related risk assessment
- Enhance the firm’s profile through thought leadership, expert forums, and industry engagement
- Contribute to broader practice strategy, market positioning, and international collaboration across the business
Profile Required:
- 15+ years’ experience in forensic delay analysis, planning, or dispute advisory within construction and infrastructure
- Strong experience preparing delay analyses and expert reports for formal dispute proceedings
- Prior expert witness experience is highly desirable; candidates on the pathway to testifying will also be considered
- Deep understanding of delay methodologies (e.g. retrospective analysis, critical path, disruption analysis) and construction contracts
- Experience operating at Director, Senior Director, or Partner level within a disputes consultancy or expert environment
- Proven ability to originate work, build client relationships, and contribute to revenue growth
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and defend complex technical opinions
- Commercially minded with the ability to balance expert delivery and practice growth
- Professional qualifications such as MICE, CIOB, APM, CIArb, or equivalent are advantageous
