Overview:
Our client is an internationally recognised engineering and construction organisation delivering complex infrastructure and environmental projects across Asia and globally.
Due to a recent senior departure, the business is seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Contract & Claims Manager to join a major EPC wastewater treatment project in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This is a critical project appointment operating within a highly sensitive contractual environment involving significant live claims, commercial negotiations, and dispute-related matters.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for protecting the project's contractual position whilst supporting project leadership in securing entitlement and maximising commercial recovery through to project completion.
Job Description:
The Senior Contract & Claims Manager will lead all contract management, claims, and dispute-related activities across the project, acting as the principal contractual advisor to the Project Director and wider leadership team.
Working alongside a dedicated contracts team, the role will be responsible for managing contractual correspondence, change management, claims preparation, dispute board processes, and commercial negotiations with the client.
This position requires an experienced professional capable of operating independently within a complex and challenging project environment, whilst leading a small team of contract management professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the project's contractual and commercial management activities
- Develop and implement claims and dispute management strategies
- Manage the preparation and submission of Extension of Time, variation, disruption, and cost claims
- Oversee contractual correspondence and notice management
- Lead change management and entitlement preservation processes
- Manage and coordinate Dispute Board procedures and submissions
- Support the Project Director in commercial negotiations with the client
- Provide strategic contractual advice to project leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of contract management professionals
- Protect and maximise the project's commercial and contractual position through to completion
- Work closely with planning, commercial, engineering, and project controls teams to develop robust entitlement submissions
- Support dispute avoidance initiatives and commercial resolution strategies
Profile Required:
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, Law, or a related discipline
- 10–15+ years' experience in Contract Management and Claims Management on major EPC projects
- Strong expertise in claims preparation, entitlement assessment, and dispute resolution
- Excellent understanding of FIDIC forms of contract
- Demonstrable experience operating on delayed, distressed, or contentious projects
- Proven track record managing significant claims and contractual negotiations
- Experience supporting formal dispute resolution procedures and Dispute Boards is highly desirable
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Previous international project experience is essential
- Experience within water, wastewater, industrial, energy, or major infrastructure projects would be advantageous
